Built in 1820 (with a 12th-century castle on the grounds), Lake Hotel sits on the shores of the famous Lakes of Killarney, approximately 15 minutes from Kerry Airport. In 1861, the Lake Hotel hosted Queen Victoria of England during her stay in Ireland. McCarthy Mor Castle is situated on the hotel's grounds on the shores of Loch Lien, or the Lower Lake, and is where King Donal Og McCarthy and his son, Tadgh, both died. The hotel is within walking distance of the Killarney National Park and a little over a mile from Killarney's town center. Golfing, horse riding, fishing, hiking, and many other activities are nearby. This location is also an hour and a half from Cork and four and a half hours from Dublin. Hotel amenities include the Spa Sensation, fitness center (with steam room), tennis court, library (with Internet access), lake pier, and hot tub. Castlelough Restaurant overlooks the McCarthy Mor Castle and the Lower Lake. All rooms feature satellite TV, radio channels, hairdryers, tea/coffee facilities, and direct-dial telephones.
